Letter to the Members:
Hello, Oklahoma FFA! My name is Alec Anderson, and I am honored to serve as your 2023-2024 Northwest Area vice president.

I am from the small town of Ringwood, where I went to school my whole life. I grew up on a 300-head cow/calf operation and have been blessed to experience the joys and discomforts of agricultural life daily.

There isn’t much to do in a small town so I filled my schedule by being involved with as much as I could. Sports were a huge part of my high school experience, from football and powerlifting to baseball. I also kept myself busy with student organizations and extracurriculars such as the academic team, NHS, FCA, youth group and, of course, FFA.

My journey in FFA started in the show ring. My family had been showing sheep before I was born, so when I was 9 years old I got my first sheep. Originally FFA was just an upgrade in the show ring to me. That is until the 1990-1991 Northwest District vice president -- or Dad as I call him -- pushed me to get involved in public speaking. After memorizing my first speech and not being prepared for questions at all, I was hooked. I loved that the only thing stopping you from winning a speech contest is yourself.

Later in my high school career CDEs were introduced to me. My ag teacher encouraged some of us to do farm business management, which was daunting at first, but we eventually found some success. I also enjoyed growing my SAE programs from exhibiting livestock and my ag services project, for which I would travel to different states and host showmanship clinics. My time in FFA has helped shape me into who I am. The lessons and soft skills learned and the friends made are priceless. This organization can equip you to take on any of life's challenges, so take every chance to participate in a competition you didn’t know existed and attend that conference to develop your leadership skills. Most importantly take the time to get to know the other members at these events.

This next year I will attend Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in biosystems engineering. I’m excited to serve this next year and help you discover your passions within FFA.
